OCTOBER
October 2022
I can’t believe how fast September has passed. The students are doing well with their reading, writing and math. Their social skills are improving while interacting with others, controlling themselves, waiting their turn in class and listening while others are speaking. They are so eager to share their answers with their classmates! They are close to earning their first popcorn party for their excellent behavior. Well done my little rabbits!

The intellect is a marvelous aspect to humans that no other creature possesses. Remarkable growth takes place in the child’s mind in these primary years and it is vital that we take advantage of the small moments we have with the children. The time at school will focus on creating a strong foundation of the basics. This foundation consists of four priorities that include reading, spelling, writing and math.
The following first grade objectives are simple but vital for your child’s success. Please make a point to practice each objective throughout the year.
Daily/Weekly/Monthly Reminders:
1- Read to your child or have your child read everyday for #20 mins.
2- Pick out letters and letter combinations and show them to your child. This can happen in the grocery store, reading a cereal box or on the side of the truck. The students love picking out the word families vowel teams. The ones we have worked on so far: ai, ay, a_e, ee, ea
3- Please help your child tie their shoes!
4- Spelling: The first semester the children will write words 2 times a piece from the speller. Throughout the week we practice writing and saying them aloud for the spelling test on Friday.
5- Math Flashcards: Math facts are the foundation because if memorized and understood they will have the confidence and the time to move on to other concepts of math without having to struggle to remember what is 7+8. Please purchase or have the kids make their own to have at home to practice. We are starting Rocket Math that helps memory, fluency and speed both for addition.
TakeHome Folder
This folder will go home on Tuesday and return back to school by Friday. Please check these folders as I will place their monthly reading logs, completed work to stay home and any important information you may need. When the children arrive in the morning, I will ask them to check their folders for anything from home before I collect them.
Communications
I will be using Class Dojo as the main form of communication. There is a Class Dojo app you can download which I check daily. My email and phone number is available if you need to contact me through those means. The lower campus does have a landline if you need to contact me in a hurry since I may not check my cell phone often.
Birthdays
If your child has a birthday and would like to celebrate it with the class please inform me. This will be a class event only. Please have treats individually wrapped or prepared which will be easier to pass out.
